Why Kendall Students Take This Course
This is the class most Kendall households start with, and it is usually one parent taking it first with the intention of bringing the other later. That works, though our honest advice is to book both of you at once — a defense plan only one adult can execute is half a plan.
Kendall is the closest major community to the Homestead Training Center — a straight run south on the Turnpike or US-1 — which makes it the easiest place in the county to actually get live-fire training done.
It is also largely families and long-term residents, and the questions we hear from Kendall are consistent: someone wants to protect the house, there are kids in it, and usually only one adult has ever handled a firearm.
What the Course Covers
- The four universal safety rules, enforced from minute one
- How a firearm actually works, and how to load and unload it
- Clearing a malfunction
- Grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture
- Trigger control — the skill that separates good shooters from the rest
- Dry practice until the motions stop requiring thought
- Live fire, close and slow, accuracy before speed
Where and When
Homestead Training Center · 4 hours (1 PM – 5 PM).
From Kendall it is a short drive south — the shortest of any major community in the county. Give yourself margin: classes start on time and the safety briefing is not something you can join halfway through.
We train outdoors deliberately. An outdoor range lets us teach drawing from a holster, moving between positions, shooting from behind cover, and working after dark — almost no indoor range in Miami-Dade permits any of it. More about the range.
Bring your own firearm and ammunition — we do not rent firearms. If you have not bought one yet, call before you book and we will talk through what to look for.
What to Bring
- Eye and ear protection (mandatory)
- Pants or shorts with a real belt (mandatory)
- Closed-toe shoes or boots — no sandals or crocs
- Your own firearm and ammunition — we do not rent firearms
- Water, hat, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent
- A shirt with a high neckline — hot brass is unforgiving
